What is a doula?
Doula comes from the Greek word meaning ‘woman servant.’ Doulas serve the mother through the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. Doulas provide informed choice support, as well as assistance with physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of childbirth.

Doulas provide non-medical support by offering labor preparation, continuous labor support and postpartum assistance. Though experienced in birth, pre-natal, and postpartum care, a doula does not take the place of a midwife or experienced doctor. Your doula should assist in building a strong support system between the mother, partner, and medical professionals.
